Recently, the Guardia Civil of Calvià made an arrest in connection with a series of violent attacks against homosexual people. The individual arrested is a young man mallorquín, now in preventive detention , accused of attempted murder and injuries .
The investigation into these incidents began last month, following the brutal attack on a German tourist on the same beach where other similar attacks occurred. The victim was attacked with a stone and subsequently hit with a hammer , causing serious injuries that required his admission to a hospital in Palma with a reserved prognosis.
However, the attack on the German tourist was not an isolated case. Another violent incident was reported on September 20 on the same beach, where another tourist couple , while walking along a path, was surprised by the same attacker. One of the members of the couple was hit in the back of the head , which caused him to fall down an embankment of approximately a dozen meters, also resulting in serious injuries that required his transfer to the hospital.
Investigators were forced to act quickly after identifying a pattern of aggression that was clearly linked by a hate component directed towards the gay community. Through an exhaustive analysis of witness statements and vehicle activity on the beach, a link was established between the two attacks.
The attacker was arrested at his home and was immediately taken to the Guardia Civil headquarters in Calvià. After a series of police proceedings and his subsequent appearance before a judge, he was ordered to be sent to prison without bail . The allegations against him are serious, which underlines the importance of taking firm measures against violence motivated by homophobia .
