Tarragona Fires

The Firefighters of the Generalitat de Catalunya have been working tirelessly throughout the night to combat two fires that threaten the beautiful parque del Montsant, in Tarragona. Despite the difficult conditions, they have managed to contain one of the fires, the one in the town of Porrera, and are currently focusing their efforts on the fire in Cabacés.
The fires started simultaneously in the early hours of Thursday afternoon, caused by incidents on the power lines. The weather conditions, with the wind from mistraland poniente, have complicated the extinguishing work by the fire brigades.
Thirteen ground crews are currently active in the Porrera fire, where the fire has been brought under control and is expected to be stabilized in the next few hours.
During the early hours of the morning, the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, travelled to Cabacés to closely monitor the evolution of these fires. The Emergency Department has reported that in the Cabacés fire, the flames have affected around 45 hectares, while the Porrera fire has damaged 11 hectares so far.
A total of 62 crews , 26 water vehicles and 191 personnel are on the ground. To reinforce the efforts, six bombing helicopters joined early in the morning, focused on preventing the reactivation of fire points.
Civil Protection has activated the Infocat plan alert as a precautionary measure given the seriousness of the situation. In addition, Rural Agents are controlling access to the Serra de Montsant Natural Park, which remains closed to avoid unnecessary risks.
Wildfires pose a significant threat not only to local flora and fauna, but also to nearby communities. The rapid response of emergency services, as well as the collaboration of authorities, are vital to mitigate these natural disasters.
