Wednesday night in Carabanchel, Madrid+ was marred by violence when at least four hooded individuals opened fire on a busy corner of the square. The event left five young people, aged between 19 and 24, seriously injured. Of the victims, four were shot, while a fifth suffered cuts with a knife.
The attackers arrived at a small park where a large group of young people were gathered. Without warning, they began shooting indiscriminately , causing chaos and panic in the area. Witnesses reported hearing at least six shots. At the time of the attack, the square was full, which multiplied the impact of the event.
The victims suffered different types of injuries. One of the young men received two shots in the chest, while another was hit in the lumbar region. Another wounded man tried to seek refuge in amarquesinabus and was hit in the back and arm. On the other hand, a fourth young man was attacked with a knife and has wounds in three critical points of his body. All of them were transferred to medical centers due to the severity of their injuries.
The police's rapid response allowed them to locate the vehicle in which the attackers fled shortly afterwards. Two individuals aged 17 and 22 were arrested and are being investigated for their involvement in the attempted murder. The Provincial Intelligence Brigade and the Judicial Police Brigade are carrying out the investigation.
Residents of Carabanchel, who witnessed the violent incident, expressed their concern. Javier L., A resident of the district for 17 years, he said that it is urgent to improve lighting and increase police presence in the area. This is not the first time that events of this nature have occurred in the area. In August 2023, a young man, who was believed to be associated with the gang Dominican Don’t Play, was also the victim of a similar attack, which has caused growing tension between the different youth gangs in Carabanchel.
The scene of the shooting left traces of violence: beer bottles, food wrappers and even a chess board, as well as three scooters belonging to the youths who were in the square. Although the owner of a Turkish food establishment was present during the incident, he preferred not to comment on the matter and limited himself to saying that he was in the kitchen when the incident occurred.
