Eviction of older woman Getafe

Eviction of Aurora and Lola in Getafe
In the heart of GetafeIn Madrid, a serious situation has arisen that reflects the housing problems faced by many families in Spain. Aurora, 79 years old, and his daughter, Lola Matamala, became the only remaining tenants of building number two on Paseo Pablo Iglesias. After 76 years of living in their home, they are facing eviction that has left mother and daughter in a critical situation.
Despite the efforts of the Tenants' Union, which organised a joint mobilisation to stop the eviction, the attempt was in vain. More than 50 residents of the community gathered in the street to express their disagreement, chanting: "They are not complying with the law." Unfortunately, Aurora only had time to collect a few belongings before the locks were changed, while her daughter was prohibited from entering the building.
According to Monica Gomez, a social worker on the case, the declaration of a tense area was requested for months .Getafe, without success. He said: "We have been asking for this for months, while long-time residents are being evicted."
Lola Matamala, who is also recognized for her work in social movements, has shared her experience saying: "Six families lived in the building, but the owner decided to sell the property." The companyDapamali SLHe was responsible for the eviction, carrying out a series of tactics to empty the building and continue the speculation.
Matamala He claims that "This is yet another case of speculation." He also claims that the new owner used intimidation tactics, including the use of groups ofdesokupaciónto force families out of their homes. She and other residents feel that their lives are at stake because of this unbridled speculation.
Matamala She also denounced the threats she and her family have suffered, stressing that "they are mobsters, they threaten and have a far-right profile." She feels she has been targeted because of her association with Podemos, highlighting that the former owner was aware of this situation and used it against him.
Matamala She criticises the legal assistance they have received, saying that the response from the legal aid lawyers has left much to be desired. Despite the existence of a Royal Decree extending the suspension of evictions, she considers that this is insufficient.
After the eviction,Matamala She went to Madrid's Third Court of Instruction with a group of neighbours in the hope of obtaining a permit that would allow her to access her home and recover her belongings. Aurora and Lola's fight is a clear example of the struggles that many face against speculation and the lack of adequate protection in housing issues, especially worrying in the Community of Madrid, where housing speculation companies have the full support of the Ayuso Government.
