Cuts in financing to autonomous communities that do not apply the housing law

Funding cuts due to non-compliance with the Housing Act
The Government's recent announcement on the reduction of state funding to autonomous communities that do not apply the housing law has caused a stir. The Minister of Housing, Isabel Rodríguez , stressed that those communities that ignore this legislation will not be able to count on the financial support of the central government. This measure was communicated in an interview TVE, in which he stressed the dependence of the autonomous regions' housing policies on state funds, which represent between 70% and 75% of their financing.
The proposal to condition aid to the housing law arises from Sumar during the presentation of the General State Budget for 2025. Yolanda Díaz, second vice president of the Government, suggested that all state financial support should be linked to the implementation of this law and to the collaboration of the autonomous communities.
Rodríguez He stressed his desire to maintain close collaboration with communities that are committed to complying with the housing law. He assured his financial support to these regions, but added that they are also expected to increase their own budget to be able to face the challenges in terms of housing.
During his speech, Rodríguez He stressed that those who make efforts to comply with regulations should not be treated the same as those who choose not to, highlighting the importance of responsibility in housing policies .
Insubordination of the Community of Madrid
A focal point of her speech was the situation in the Community of Madrid , where the minister pointed out that the president's insubordination Isabel Díaz Ayuso is affecting many Madrid residents. Rodríguez He indicated that there are thousands of citizens suffering the consequences of not applying the law, which generates a socially unsustainable scenario .
The minister also offered help to the Community of Madrid to address this housing crisis, proposing the efficient use of the funds that have been provided by the Government, amounting to 2 billion euros since 2018. Her aim is to ensure that these resources are used correctly and in accordance with the law.
Rodríguez He stressed that the lack of implementation of the housing law not only affects financing, but also has serious repercussions on the well-being of citizens. He emphasized that any area where tension is observed in the housing market will take time to see solutions if communities remain reluctant to implement the law.
In another area, during his meeting with the consellera de Territori, Habitatge i Transició Ecològica from Catalonia, Silvia Paneque, Rodríguez He expressed his satisfaction with the Catalan Government's willingness to cooperate on housing issues. He stressed that the number of municipalities under pressure will be increased to 131 more, covering 90% of the Catalan population.
Paneque He acknowledged that the task of promoting 50,000 new homes in Catalonia, both through direct and delegated promotion, will not be easy, but he hopes that it will be possible to mobilise 8.3 billion euros by 2030 to meet this objective.
