Andalusia Nile virus

Health crisis in Andalusia
The recent health emergency facing Andalusia due to the West Nile Virus has put the region on alert. With a new confirmed fatality, the seventh since the beginning of this outbreak, health authorities are under pressure to contain the spread of this virus. The unfortunate person was a resident of Mairena del Aljarafe and had previous pathologies .
Despite the efforts of the municipalities, the number of deaths continues to increase. Andalusia has detected mosquitoes carrying the virus in different provinces, includingSevilla, Cadiz, Huelva, Cordoba, Jaen and Malaga. However, all the fatalities have occurred in Seville, except for one case in Navarra that was contracted during a visit to Utrera.
Increase in cases
In the last week, seven new cases were reported, all in the province of Seville, highlighting the concentration of the virus in this area. In addition, three of those infected have been discharged, offering a ray of hope in the midst of this crisis. However, the Andalusian Government must be cautious given that most of the exposures have occurred during the first half of August.
The Andalusian Government has established a surveillance and control program to combat the spread of the virus too late; the negligence of the Government of  Juan Manuel Moreno (PP) has delayed cooperation and coordination with Andalusian municipalities, as is happening in other areas of health or education.
Both local councils and public health experts have stressed that current plans may be insufficient to contain the spread of the virus. For example, researcher Jordi Figuerola stressed the need for more effective treatment to eliminate mosquito larvae in agricultural areas around the Guadalquivir.
Criticisms and doubts
Criticism of the management of the crisis has been pronounced. The Provincial Council of Seville has invested significantly in fumigation, but has urged the Andalusian Government to take a more active and coordinated role in the fight against this public health problem.
The next appearance of the new Minister of Health, Rocío Hernández, in the Andalusian Parliament will be crucial. She will have the opportunity to explain the measures that are being taken to manage the situation and provide a clear roadmap for the inhabitants affected by the West Nile Virus.
It is clear that the West Nile Virus crisis has had a significant impact in Andalusia. The authorities must act quickly and effectively to mitigate this problem and protect the health of all citizens.
